Kawartha Highlands Park
(Bottle Lake Route)

Bottle Lake is located at the Eastern end of Bottle creek which runs into Catchacoma lake. Bottle and Sucker lakes are part of the old Kawartha Canoe Route and are now part of Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park.

We have done this trip several times and it is a nice weekend getaway. There are 17 Campsites on the two lakes and there is a spring for drinking water on the Western shore of Bottle Lake. Access to Catchacoma Lake is from the bridge on Beaver Lake Road 3 km E. off Hwy. 507, 10 km North of Buckhorn. The trip in will take about 3 Hrs, depending on the wind on Catchacoma.

From the bridge travel north about 2½ km. To Bottle Creek. About 200 m. in at the mouth of Bottle Creek there is a 100 m. portage around the dam (on the right). The rest of the trip is an easy 1 hr up Bottle Creek and into Bottle lake. 1 km north on the Eastern Side of the lake is a creek with a 180 m. (on the left) steep portage into Sucker Lake.

This trip is very scenic, so bring your camera and lots of film. This area has been designated environmentally sensitive by The MNR and should be respected. There are no visitor facilities in the park and has minimal facilities (Pack out your garbage).

More information on this route can be found in Kevin Callan's book, Cottage Country Canoe Routes. We have traveled on many of these routes and found them interesting and sometimes quite challenging. The Kawartha Highlands Route is novice level and I have used it for teaching many times along with Cold, Gold, Anstruther, Buzzard, Long and Wolf lakes.

All of these routes are 1 - 2 days in length and all are about 10 - 20 km.
The Topographic Maps required for all of these routes are-- Burleigh Falls 31 D/9 and Gooderham 31D/16
